The Hovawart Club of Canada (HCC) was established in 2016 to raise awareness of this uncommon breed in Canada, and to encourage breeding in compliance with the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) standard and the regulations of the Canadian Kennel Club as well as Canadian law.
The role of the club is therefore to inform, advise and support Hovawart dog owners and breeders and urge them to meet that standard. The breeding regulations of the HCC are intended to encourage the development of healthy Hovawart dogs with a good temperament, to safeguard and improve the genetic diversity and to monitor it in Canada.
To this end, the Club periodically organizes sanctioned events such as conformation specialties, temperament tests and training workshops, educating not only its members but anyone interested in the Hovawart and activities of the Club.
While the HCC is a Canadian-based organization, it is committed to working closely with other Hovawart international clubs and other groups who share in the mission to protect and maintain the Hovawart standard and establish rules for responsible breeding.
